Living in Canada

Traditions & Culture:

Throughout Canada’s history, its culture has been influenced by European culture and traditions, especially British and French, and by its own indigenous cultures. Canada’s culture draws from its broad range of constituent nationalities, and policies that promote a just society are constitutionally protected.

Safety

Canada is widely regarded as one of the safest places in the world to live. However, it is still important to follow the same common sense safety precautions in Canada that you would anywhere else in the world. Canada is a friendly, safe country with a high standard of living. Low crime rates, great student health benefits, and universities focused on student security and health make studying in Canada a good choice for anyone who’s uneasy about personal safety while abroad. The Global Peace Index ranks Canada among its top 10 safest countries in the world to visit.

Health

The average Canadian household spends $2000 on health care costs and $4000 on private insurance premiums. 65% of Canadians have some form of private health insurance most often provided through their employers. Insurance plans vary in quality and price just like any product in a free market.

Food:

The Most ‘Canadian’ Foods Include Bacon, Poutine And Maple Syrup. The national dish of Canada is a food called poutine, which is a high-calorie creation that consists of fries, cheddar cheese curds and gravy. The Canadian dish was originally seen in the province of Quebec, but can be found all around Canada and has spread to the United Kingdom and United States.

Transport

There are five principal modes of transportation in Canada: water, rail, motor carrier, air and pipeline. Water transportation is generally used for the movement of bulk commodities of relatively low value per tonne, such as coal, ore, grain, gravel and salt.

The bus is the most common form of urban transportation in Canada. Some cities have other modes of public transit. In most cases, you can easily transfer from one mode of transportation to another. To use public transportation, you must buy a ticket or a transit pass.
